insight
in most cases we look at illness as a bad thing and no one wants to go through it. it is a stressful part of anyone lives either being ill or knowing somebody in that situation, it is painful. people most of the time look at religion at the time of need because religion gives a picture of the after life so maybe that's why people look at religion because it sort of tells them whats going to happen to you after you die,  and as people we always want to look for the answer for every question. if there wasn't religion what would people do would try to figure out how to cheat death, i guess there are examples of cheating death in our lives now, like medicine is a way to cheat death because all you need is a pill to sure certain things, but our bodies are meant to get old. we should live our lives not caring about what might happen and think about what you can do now to make your life more for filling.

precishi my morrie i don't want you to worry about me because i lived my life and i know that people care about me. i don't want to think about regret because that's not something that's important because you cant fix the past. i want people to know that there is more to life then just sitting in front of a t.v screen, you need to live life and grasp each moment.

1-the doctor gave them some information on ALS, little pamphlets, as if they were opening a bank account. outside, the sun was shining and people were going about their business pg.8

most people wonder what happens when they are told that they have terminal illness and how people feel.

2-you know, mitch, now that im dying, ive become much more interesting to people pg.32

i find it said sometimes when people die that's the only time they want to speak to that person that is sick

3-death and sickness and getting fat and going bald happened. i traded lots of dreams for a bigger check pg.33

morrie is a really strong person and it seems like he lived a for filled life because hes not talking about regret hes talking about the bigger picture. hes just thinking about how important life is on page34 is a perfect example of what Morrie thinks, Morrie was talking about his insight about dying."accept the past as past, without denying it or disregarding it". i agree with this quote because there's no way you can change the past we have to acknowledge what we did and try to move one and learn each day and live life.

1.in movies they make the people look more normal then usual
2.she didn't leave her husband side
3.she made him feel really comfortable
4.suddenly He was very healthy and never sick.
5.she wanted her husband treated like a human being
6.her husband was trying to fight
7.decided to call a Buddhist
8.you should always be nice to people around you
9.you should tell the person in illness that you care about that you love them

I'm really comfortable about talking about death because my family mad everything seem like everything happens for a reason, and when its your time to go its your time to go. i think Beth really helped out her husband the best way she could by making his final moments memorable. when one of my moms friends died my mother was really sad for the first time i seen my mom really depressed, but i told her hes always going to be there for us because he influenced us each in a different way and he will always be in our memories and we should be grateful that we got to know him as a human being. when i first saw him in the hospital i started to cry there was nothing else in my thoughts but me thinking its not true. but i stopped crying when he tried to get up from his bed and he talked about not worrying about whats going to happen and we should just continue our lives and treat me mother right and told my mother stop being so hard head, after all that he has been through he still was humble and wanted everyone to smile.

my mom said he had to deal with a lot with dying because she is getting older and some of things that young people take for granted she cant do anymore. but my mother wasn't bothered with the fact that she was going to die she was more focused on whats happening now. she understands that death of dying comes with life so she just wants to live the best life that she can. i guess my mother has a point because thinking about death is a waste of time because time doesn't wait for people. we have to focus in what happening now because we exist now we don't know whats going to happen after we die so we need to just live our lives. well until it starts happening to you. but my mother does want my grandmother anywhere near the hospital because my mother doesn't want to lose her. i find that interesting because i thought the same way i didn't really care about dying or people dying i just cared about the people that i know that could be in that situation. i think most people in the world think like that as will people don't care about things until it happens to them, like a skinny person that becomes fat because his unhealthy diet but the skinny person thought that it would never happen to them because they were born skinny. i wonder if that's being selfish our its in our subconscious to act that way.

i haven't experienced much with illness and dying because i have all my grand parents and when they are sick i don't get to see them. i guess every person deals with illness and dying differently. it must be hard to see a loved one go through an illness because you wouldn't want to be in there situation just laying down wondering whats going on outside of the hospital walls. illness is a state of poor health and dying is on the road to death. somethings that confuse me about illnesses is when people make fun of illnesses certain people get offended but when we make fun of a perfectly healthy person people laugh. why cant everything be funny or why cant people stop making fun of people. my experience with is just people talking about there family or people making fun of illness and dying history i have no real personal history. i think the people that get offended when people make fun of an illness and still laugh at a healthy person wardrobe or how they look is a hypocrite because you still making fun of someone on someone else expanse. i wouldn't know what to to if someone that i knew was dying or had an illness, there wouldn't be that much to do in the first place since you don't have the illness or your not dying. all i would do is make the person feel comfortable as they can until that certain day comes. i wouldn't give the person hope if there is none then it would be disappointing to both parties because you know that there not going to survive and the person now thinks that hes going to have a normal life. when i look at illness and dying there are two sides the people that are dying and crying and there are people that profit from us dying. i think its a big problem that private organization can profit so much in one person dying, some times i think when i go to the doctor" is this doctor going to make me sick intentionally". why does the untied states treat people so differently then the rest of the world. do you think it right what we do to certain Americans that don't have health coverage, do you think we should have hospitals that aren't owned by the government. looking back at all i wrote illness and dying is such a said and expensive thing to go through i hope my family just stays healthy and doesnt go through the pain and hardships like the others.

I've learned a lot from this unit, from what goes into our food and why our food is prepared. For the final project i choose to eat differently so tired only eating at whole foods and eat more salads. it was really difficult for me because my friends didn't want to got whole foods because of the location. I learned that a lot of factors go into choosing food then just the price and the taste. my sister always shopped at whole foods and i loved the way the food tasted but my sister said it was really expensive. but then i went there myself there was more then i thought, in the union square whole foods there is place where you can prepared food, they made the sandwiches in front of you and they list what's inside the sandwich. usually when i eat fast food i eat a lot because i thought i need to eat a lot to get, but when i just got a sandwich from whole foods i didn't really feel like eating more. i really didn't think that i would fill me up even when i went home i didn't the sudden urge to eat. when i first was going into this unit i didn't know that much. but when andy started to talk about the food unit i started to get really interested in how our food is prepared, after that i looked up a documentary called Food Inc. it talked about how our meat was prepared and the politics of the food industry. looking bak at the food unit i can see why some people don't care about what happens to our food because its really difficult to change people lives and way of thinking.

outline

Thesis statement: Todays generation knows what is wrong with our diet and what
goes into our food, but cant afford or even have it available like the products
they try to avoid.

Intro: when we walk into our local super market everything is packed with sugar
and other kinds of ingredients that are inside our food. We used to know where
our meat comes from but now the industry refuse to even put labeling from where
the meat. We think as more and more technology grows it would be healthier to
eat. The industry says its personal choice on rather if you want to eat there
food our not, but its hard when our world is filled with commercial that
advertise the unhealthy and dont give use the alternative product. Todays
generation know what wrong with our diet and whats goes into our food, but
cant afford or even have it available like the products they try to avoid.

Body #1: McDonalds pioneered the happy meal, McDonalds tries to see how he
society is living once there is a trend in food McDonald tries to follow Rhodes
trends to is gets harder for people to sway to q different food.

Body # 2 : we the people choose what we eat when we buy it. When we but food
it's like placing a vote toward the companies. If we start buying other products
That are healthy.

Body # 3: to change how the world eats we have to start eating at different
places instead of fast food and non organic products, we need to shop at the
right places and get organic food. If we start eating differently.

Freakonomics

Freakonomics was a very interesting movie. It talked about how names might determine the outcome of the rest of your life, it talked about how there was corruption inside sumo, and the movie talked about and incentives that people have when they want something. Each of these ideas from the movie is a bigger part that takes over our world today. For example when they talk about corruption in sumo wrestling this can be a smaller picture of a bigger one. the example I think that of the sumo is probably the corruption in the government, because the US government have people worked inside the companies that there suppose to be passing laws aginast them. So the government is trying to protect the establishment instead of trying protect the people that pay taxes. The incentives of people is money that's what I got out of that segment of the movie because in the film the students that didn't do well in school the schools had to pay them to get better grades, but the movie was saying that people need an incentive to do something. Well if only money drives you to do well in ice thentheres something wrong and probably grow up to be corrupt like the politicanins in our government. The last segment they talked about names. In the film they were talking about how names determine the rest of your life. There were to economist that studied this and the first one said that names don't matter it's all about there environment that they live in that dictate the rest of there life, then the second economist they did a experiment and he made two job applications that had a different name and ethnicity but the same college and education and see if how many calls that each person gets, this experiment showed that there were more calls for the person with a white name and a with white ethnicity job more job calls then the other application. In my opinion the economist that did the studies they are both right because the environment and there ethnicity really does matter in life because people are almost brainwashed to do a certain way or think a certain way. When I look back into the film people don't really have answer on how we can change they way we live the people just want the easy way out of life intsead of trying to find and answer.

chapter 4-when farm factories make a lot of grians they leave it outside on the ground and leave it in the rain even some famers leave there corn outside when being transported to the markets. corn is the number one crop. in 1970 there were 7 billion bushels now there are 13 billion because we created many other ways to use corn. use corn as fuel and feed for animals. (some animals that didnt even eat corn naturally)

hw7b

chapter 3- a lot of things changed in the farming industry from the crops the livestock and now even the soil since most of the crops need nitrogen to survive, since WW2 they had extra ammonium nitrate, at first the American government was going to use it help the timber industry but instead the helped the farmers. so  looking at this farming became less and less natural its just made to make more profit.

hw7

Chapter 1-corn is amazing in certain ways because it feeds a lot of people and it is easy to grow. but now we found to use it many other ways instead of just making a corn on a cob.90% of out supermarket have corn in their products. to see if there is corn there products try to find these names, modified starch, unmodified starch, glucose syrup, maltodextrin, ascorbic acid, crystalline fructose, lactic acid, MSG, Carmel color, xanthan gum.

Chapter 2-these days farmers changed there ways instead of seeing actual farms they now look like big factories. Everything has been made just for the companies to profit more instead of being safe and healthy farmers used to produce 30 different livestock and crops in 1920, more recently it shrunk to 8 different livestock and crop.

A dominate discourse is believing in what a large group believes in for example there is a dominate discourse against the use of drugs. on site D this was one of my favorite one because its saying people today believe in anything a large population, it like if we jump I'll jump because there doing it because everyone thinks its cool, but  you should create you own opinion and have your own idea. For example the people around me listen to hip-hop/ rap music and we see it as poetic and it let's artist releases his talent, so most teenagers view our music is the best to listen to so we have a dominate discourse on hip hop music, but instead we should listen all kinds of music because you need a lot of talent to create music we should accept it, because rapper use other types of music so they can sample it and use it in there own beat. to relate to what we are talking about in class there is a dominate discourse that if you eat the wrong type of food it leads to an unhealthy diet and can cause obesity and other conditions. reading of the articles about food, Americans don't really care about there diet, in the article it mentions how the nation thinks about there diet. "The nation has long had a complicated relationship with vegetables. People know that vegetables can improve health. But they’re a lot of work. In refrigerators all over the country, produce often dies a slow, limp death because life becomes too busy."(By KIM SEVERSON Published: September 24, 2010,Told to Eat Its Vegetables, America Orders Fries) i think that its this reason and because America is so commercialized that its hard for children to make the right choice if they are filled with cartoon characters that have unhealthy food next to them.

my family eats more responsible then me i just whatever is in front of me. my family watches there weight and sees if they gained or lost any weight. We don't eat together we all eat at different times and different places. my mom eats the least out of the whole family she loves to eat vegetables and rice, and if eats out its never MacDonald's she chooses to eat a sandwich or a salad, my sister is sort of the same way but she eats all kinds of food but she still watches her weight. my mother eats like that because she thinks if she eats less there is more food for us but its doesn't make any senses because me and my sister are never home. when i go back to japan the food is different the food is smaller and it taste different then the food in America. we use chop sticks in japan because it can cut food and you can pick up what your eating all with one utensils my grandmother is trying to live longer so she eats whatever the doctor tells her to eat.I people in America eat a lot compared to other Nations around the word. since we are the fattest country in the world we should watch they way we eat and exercise more regularly. My grandmother ate even less when she was little because she was alive in japan during world war 2, she told me she used to pick up mixed green along the roads where she walked around and boiled it in soup, but she grew up she got more money and she eat more meat and walked less because she has a car. my grandmother isn't fat but she is weak because of the lack of walking she did when she was younger. my grandmother and my mother learned how important food was because they lived in the country side of japan and they didn't have that much food. me and my sister is different we both just eat and leave left over out in the open or just throw the food away in the trash so we think more differently about food then the older generation. I think we don't appreciate food because it was always there in front of us ever since we were born. the older generations had to fight and work for there food and the government didn't really help as much as they do now.

we don't eat together so we all eat differently in my family we don't know what each other favorite foods are. but what usually eat at home is turkey burgers and hot dogs and i sometimes make pasta when there are the right ingredients inside my fridge.

The green market is more healthy because it's natural and fresh. The fast food
make the product that they sell taste good instead of naturally tasting good.
The fast food get more money because the food is already prepared for you, but
the green market you would need to cook it yourself. This shows that most
Americans are to lazy to make a better choice to cook natural food. But most
people are are sometimes to busy to cook so they go to fast food. Most fast food
locations are near a popular places where maybe a schools are near by, hospitals
college, business buildings, and malls. They know when they put it in those
location they will get money. When I was little they only have the happy meal no
salads, no smoothies, and no calories up on the menu. But now it's almost a
different menu and a new look. But in my opinion I think they attack the
children and the wall street people because they have a more serious look now
then they did then, they toys and meals for children, now they sell lattès and smoothies.
The people around me don't eat fast food as much but we still don't eat healthy,
just because we don't eat fast food doesn't mean we are healthy. When we do go to a pax or a
salad bar it's sometimes too expensive macdonalds is cheaper and comes with fries and a drink
for a value meal so how can we say no that. most people approch food by how much they have in
there pockets because we need money to buy food.i normally eat at home or eat at work
because it free, but if i were to eat outside it would be pizz or subways because there both
affordable.

Food is an important part of all our lives, we wouldn't be able to survive and
live without it . food can bring people together. When I try to get food I
look for two things first is the price of the food and then the I look for the
taste, I wish I could just but all the food in the world and just eat it. Food
make every culture different because we can eat different food or even eat food
differently. Like when I go back to japan we don't usually use forks and knives
we use chopsticks everyday even when we eat toast we still use chopsticks I've
even seen people eat pizza with chopsticks. In japan the food is prepared and
taste different. In America a lot of people eat beef in japan mostly people eat
Fish. Also when I eat in japan I'm used to the American size but japan doesn't
have the same size as American food it's much smaller because Japanese people
don't eat as much as Americans can eat. Idk really why Japanese eat less maybe
because they find it more healthy. Food and love are the most scared things on
earth but most people say money and love, but your not born to like money, as a
child u didn't even know how important money was , but we knew how important
food was if we didn't have it. People can survive without money because money is
just an idea that people created to make better trades for goods. So in my
opinion food is scared because it's in every culture it makes people who they
are sometimes because they eat differently or they prepare food differently.
